Recently, I found some blind boxes called Disney Mini Figure World. I can’t find a lot of information on them but the reason I purchased some boxes is because they have a few different Stitch figures. He is my husband’s favorite. I bought 5 boxes with the hopes of getting Stitch and with my luck that didn’t happen. What I did get were ALL of the Mickey Mouse options, even a double.
Band Leader Mickey, My Girl Mickey, Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey, and The Brave Little Tailor are the Mickey Mouse figures in this series. The saving grace to my bad luck is that the figures are well made. The paint job is also very good and they look awesome displayed as a collection. Most of the figures stand well on their own except Band Leader and My Girl Mickey. They need a little help. I managed to get them to stand long enough for this photo but after a while they both went down.
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, My Girl Mickey Mouse inspired me to bake. Looking at the figure, the colors reminded me of an unopened package of Oreos I had in the kitchen and the red heart that Mickey is holding brought on the idea of Red Velvet Oreo Heart Donuts. Black, white and red… perfect!
Red velvet is not my go to cake. I know a lot of people who LOVE red velvet but I am just not one of those people. It’s a cake that wants to be chocolate but also red, I don’t get it! LOL But after making these donuts I can now appreciate red velvet. They came out so good! Maybe it was the Oreo flavor but I loved these donuts. I incorporated crushed Oreos into the batter and it gave the red velvet a nice subtle Oreo flavor. It also gave the donuts an awesome black spotted pattern. This is the first time anything red velvet I made was actually red. A whole tablespoon of Wilton’s No Taste Red food coloring is in the batter, which is basically an entire bottle, but it was worth it. The color was bold and vivid.
Aren’t they cute?! If you do not own a heart-shaped donut pan the plain round ones will work but if you love all things cute I think a heart-shaped donut pan is a must. To top the donuts I glazed them with a vanilla glaze that has a subtle hint of cream cheese. And on top of that MORE crushed Oreos. SO GOOD! Not that these donuts will last more than a day but they should be eaten within 2 days. ENJOY!
