Moana’s Chocolate Chip Coconut Macaroons

Are you excited to own the Disney movie Moana?!? In my household we are VERY excited. My son requests the soundtrack be played at least once a day. He is 16 months old so he hasn’t even seen the movie yet, but based on his love for the soundtrack I am sure he will LOVE the movie. To celebrate finally being able to own Moana on Blu-ray I made some Chocolate Chip Coconut Macaroons.

Shortly after I saw the movie I came across these Moana Funko Mystery Minis  and purchased three. All of the figures in the series are awesome so it really wasn’t a big gamble to buy these. I knew I would be happy with any of the options. I got Maui in human form (other options are him as a shark and an eagle), sitting baby Moana and standing Pua. Like most of the Funko mystery minis they are well made and the paint on them is great. My favorite of the three is baby Moana. She is holding a conch shell and her accessories are on point, a flower in her hair and a cute necklace.

The figures are adorable and they inspired me to make a coconut dessert. These chocolate chip coconut macaroons are easy to make and super delicious. They have very few ingredients but upon tasting them you would never think that is the case. Condensed milk and whipped egg whites hold the shredded coconut and chocolate chips together. I like my coconut nice and toasted so I left them in the oven a full 30 minutes. If you don’t like it too toasted take them out at 20-25 minutes.

You can make these macaroons without the chocolate chips, but really why would you do that. The chocolate takes them to the next level of goodness. I would even go as far as topping them with melted chocolate next time. These treats are so light and fluffy it’s hard to eat just one. Really makes me wonder why so many people hate coconut.

Chocolate Chip Coconut Macaroons

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes

  • 14 Oz. Sweetened Flaked Coconut
  • 1 Can (14 oz.) Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1 Tsp. Vanilla Extract
  • 2 Large Egg Whites, at room temperature
  • 1/2 C. Chocolate Chips


  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
  2. In a bowl of a stand mixer add egg whites and whip on high until firm peaks form.
  3. In a large bowl combine the coconut, condensed milk, chocolate chips, and vanilla. Mix until combined.
  4. Carefully fold the egg whites into the coconut mixture.
  5. Drop the batter onto sheet pans lined with parchment paper using a cookie scoop making sure to squeeze out any access moisture.
  6. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until golden brown.
  7. Cool on a wire rack.

  1. Looooove the movie! Love this blog! Your coconut macaroons look amazing. I used to be a coconut hater…i think it was because of the texture. But as I got older I started liking coconut and especially in macaroons dipped in chocolate or with a chocolate base. Good job and the pictures are so cute!
